Changes to the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme in Scotland, under the Disclosure (Scotland) Act 2020, are now in effect.
Membership of the PVG Scheme has become a legal requirement for all individuals working in regulated roles involving children and protected adults.
Individuals currently working in regulated roles in motorsport have already obtained PVG membership through Motorsport UK. These roles include:
- Club Safeguarding Officers (CSOs)
- Clerk of the Course (Kart)
- Instructors
- Kart Scrutineers
- Karting Mechanics
- Rescue Officials
Motorsport UK has reviewed the legislative changes in detail and has worked with Volunteer Scotland to confirm compliance with the changes to the legislation. Consequently, these changes do not currently affect how Motorsport UK operates in Scotland.
We would ask all member Clubs to review the position of their volunteers and employees, especially if they are not a Motorsport UK licence holder. Please check if anyone requires a PVG check and that your Safer Recruitment policies are still compliant. In short, if someone is involved with children, young people, or adults at risk for 3 or more days in any 30-day period, they are considered to be doing regulated activity and require a PVG check.
If you have any questions or need further clarification, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with the Safeguarding Team at safeguarding@motorsportuk.org, or the Regional Safeguarding Officer – safeguarding@motorsport.scot
