Motorsport should be fun. Everyone should feel safe, enjoy the sport and everyone should be treated with respect.
Safeguarding is making sure that all club members can do what they love. All people, regardless of discipline, should be able to take part in a motorsport community within the UK that is free from all forms of harassment and abuse. Motorsport UK takes the issue of safeguarding very seriously and wants to support clubs in ensuring they take the correct steps to provide a safe motorsport environment.
As a Regional Association we are committed to helping Motorsport UK and our Member Clubs and volunteers with the sharing of best practice guidance and providing support to those involved with safeguarding children and adults at risk. We are also keen to ensure that our Member Clubs and volunteers have appropriate safeguarding training.
All Motorsport UK Recognised Clubs are required to have a licensed Club Safeguarding Officer and that individual must hold an appropriate suitability check (DBS, PVG or Access NI). All licenced Club Safeguarding Officers will be invited to training and provided with support to undertake their role.
Club Safeguarding Officers act as a focal point for safeguarding issues and supporting safe motorsport environments for children, adults at risk and the wider community.
My role as Regional Safeguarding Officer is mainly an advisory and development role. If you are struggling to find a Club Safeguarding Officer, or need any help with or support with safeguarding, please email me at safeguarding@motorsport.scot
Alternatively, if you have any questions, please email the Motorsport UK Safeguarding Team at safeguarding@motorsportuk.org
