SMMC earns Motorsport UK Sustainability Accreditation

The Scottish Motorsport Marshals Club (SMMC) is proud to announce that it has achieved Motorsport UK’s Sustainability Accreditation, marking an important milestone in the club’s commitment to environmental responsibility within the motorsport community.

While SMMC doesn’t organise events directly, it plays a crucial role in supporting safe and well-managed motorsport across Scotland. From rally stages to circuits, SMMC marshals and officials are on the front lines — and now, they’re helping lead the way on sustainability too.

“This accreditation is more than a badge — it reflects real action,” said Mark Russell, SMMC’s Environmental Champion. “We’re taking steps to reduce our environmental footprint and to inspire everyone in motorsport to do the same.”

Every aspect of motorsport has an impact, from travel emissions to energy use, logistics, and even paperwork. SMMC is working hard to ensure that sustainability is part of the conversation at every level — and part of every solution.

Beyond its operational efforts, SMMC is also committed to giving back, supporting local environmental charities that help protect the natural landscapes where motorsport events take place.

“This is just the beginning,” added Russell. “We’re encouraging every marshal, official, competitor, team member, service crew, contractor, and spectator to be part of this journey. The future of the sport depends on the actions we take today.”

Motorsport, like many activities, has an environmental impact — and it’s up to all of us to play a part in making it more sustainable for the future.

Mark is leading our work to embed more sustainable practices across motorsport in Scotland. He’s also keen to support and encourage Member Clubs on their own journey toward Environmental Sustainability Accreditation, helping to raise environmental awareness and action throughout the community.
