Scotland’s Jim Clark honoured at Silverstone with Grandstand tribute

A fitting tribute is taking shape at Silverstone Circuit, where the legacy of Jim Clark will be celebrated in a powerful new way. The Jim Clark Trust has announced that the iconic BRDC Grandstand at Silverstone will be renamed the Jim Clark Grandstand, ensuring that one of motorsport’s greatest talents is forever part of the circuit he helped define.

Adding to this tribute, artist David Johnson has created a striking mural capturing a moment of pure triumph, Clark lifting the winner’s trophy after his unforgettable 1965 victory, standing proudly beside his legendary Lotus 33, car number 5. It is a scene that embodies excellence, grace, and a golden era of racing, and captures the spirit, humility, and brilliance that defined a true Scottish champion.

Clark, born in Fife and raised in the Scottish Borders and widely regarded as one of the finest talents the sport has ever seen, continues to inspire generations of drivers from across the country.

The grandstand will be officially unveiled this Saturday, 25 April, coinciding with the reopening of the British Racing Drivers’ Club clubhouse following an extensive refurbishment. Together, these moments mark not just a celebration of history, but a renewed connection between past greatness and future generations who will watch the drama of racing unfold from a place now bearing Clark’s name.

The sounds and smells of rally cars have never lost their appeal. As an adult, working on an ambulance crew covering Cadwell Park in the mid 90s, he frequently encountered drivers who had come to an abrupt stop somewhat sooner than they had anticipated.
