About the Championship

Speed events are probably one of the oldest forms of motorsport in the United Kingdom, with roots back at the very start of the automobile age in the shape of reliability time trials and test hills. Central to Speed events in Scotland are the Scottish Sprint and Hillclimb Championships. With 13 rounds in total, visiting Kames, Boyndie and Golspie along the way, the Championships are true national championships for Speed competitors.

As well as the title of overall champions, competitors compete for awards in three main divisions throughout the season. The divisions are split further into classes for all types of car, including road cars, classic cars, modified cars and the spectacular racing cars.

John is our Discipline Representative for Sprint and Hillclimbs.

He has been involved in historic navigational rallying, including 13 Tulip rallies and 2 le jogs, since 2003 and got into speed events when a close friend, David Gray ( sadly no longer with us), suggested he try Fintray in his Guilietta around 12 years ago. He was hooked by the end of the first day and has moved through saloons to single seater, but all in historics. John is vice chairman of HSSC.
